Ultrasonic Compatibility Test
Use this workflow to verify that your camera can capture Omniscient's ultrasonic sync beacon before performing a mounted shoot.
1. Play the test beacon on iOS
- Open Omniscient on your iPhone or iPad.
- Go to Settings → Audio → Ultrasonic compatibility test.
- Start recording on your camera.
- Tap Play Test Beacon and wait for playback to finish.
- Stop recording on your camera.
Recommended camera settings
- Disable wind reduction, noise cut, and audio noise reduction.
- Avoid voice-only or vocal-range audio modes.
- Prefer wide or full-range audio capture.
- Test the exact same mic path and camera settings you will use in production.
2. Analyze the recording on Omniscient Desktop
- Open Omniscient Desktop.
- Open Ultrasonic Compatibility Test:
- On macOS: Omniscient menu.
- On Windows: Help menu.
- Drop your recorded file into the window (or click to choose a file).
- Wait for analysis.
Result meanings
- Compatible: Reliable beacon decode. Good for ultrasonic sync.
- Weak but detectable: Beacon found, but margin is weak.
- Filtered or incompatible: Ultrasonic band appears suppressed, or no usable beacon evidence was found.
- Wrong beacon: A beacon was detected, but it does not match the dedicated test session. This usually means the beacon is not coming from the Ultrasonic compatibility test.
Troubleshooting
If your result is Weak but detectable or Filtered or incompatible:
- Re-test with the mic closer to the iPhone/iPad speaker.
- Re-check camera audio settings and disable all audio processing.
- Avoid noisy environments with strong high-frequency content.
- If ultrasonic remains unreliable, use LTC cable sync for that setup.
