Apple Motion

Apple Motion File

The Apple Motion file (.motn) provides a method for transferring video, camera, and anchor data into Apple Motion. In this app, anchors are substitutes for the scan. These anchors do not exist by default and must be manually created.

Export the .motn file

  1. In "Export Options" under "Third Party", ensure that Motion is enabled.
  2. By default, a geometry doesn't contain any anchors, indicated by "0 anchors". To add anchors, tap the “0 anchors” button.
  3. In the geometry view, tap on the geometry to place anchors. Tap an anchor again to remove it.
  4. After placing anchors, tap the "Back" button in the top left corner.
  5. Finally, tap "Export".
note

If you've selected multiple shots, use the "Next"/"Previous" buttons to navigate between the geometries. When you reach the last geometry and are satisfied with the anchor placements, tap "Completed".

Use the .motn file in Apple Motion

  1. Open Apple Motion.
  2. Go to FileOpen... in the top left menu.
  3. Select the .motn file you’ve exported.

After completing these steps, your Apple Motion project will include:

  • Project: This includes all imported elements.
  • Anchors: Placed as substitutes for the scan.
  • Camera: Represents the camera of the shot.
  • Footage: The original video footage associated with the shot.
Auto-naming

When a specific type of surface is identified, the system automatically assigns a default name to any associated nulls. Applicable surface types include:

  • Ceiling
  • Door
  • Floor
  • Seat
  • Table
  • Wall
  • Window
