External Audio Input

Omniscient can record audio from built-in or external microphones, including USB, wired, and supported Bluetooth inputs.

Enable audio recording

  1. Open Settings > Audio.
  2. Enable Record audio.
  3. Allow microphone permission when prompted.

If microphone permission is denied, Omniscient cannot list or use input devices.

Choose your microphone

In Settings > Audio, use Preferred Microphone to pick your input:

  • iPhone (built-in mic)
  • External inputs (USB, wired, Bluetooth) when connected

When you start recording, Omniscient uses your selected preferred input when available.

Quick switching from the Record screen

When Record audio is enabled, a mic icon appears in the Record HUD:

  1. Tap the mic icon.
  2. Pick a microphone from the popup list.
  3. Start recording.

Omniscient also shows connection and selection status in that popup.

Route changes and automatic fallback

If your external mic disconnects during a session, Omniscient falls back to the built-in iPhone mic and shows a message.

For best sync stability:

  • Prefer USB or wired mics for lower latency.
  • Use Bluetooth only when convenience is more important than tight sync.

Troubleshooting

  • No audio inputs available
Confirm microphone permission is enabled and reconnect the external mic.
  • Audio feels delayed
Try USB or wired microphones instead of Bluetooth.
